Cabo to Unviel Updated 40 Express at 2013 Miami Boat Show
Since its introduction, industry experts have hailed the CABO 40 Express as the ultimate sportfisher — featuring a war chest of big-game angling equipment, as well as a comfortable interior that is suitable for long stays on board. Plus, she boasts the speed, range and ride to reach even the most far-away fishing grounds. fast.
Just one year ago, CABO Boats introduced the new 40 Hardtop Express. We combined all that had been learned from the award winning 44 HTX and applied that to the existing 40 platform. As a result, the new 40 HTX added many new features and reconfirmed its spot as the best sportfishing platform near 40 feet. This winter, CABO will debut an updated 40 Express that incorporates these new features for those wanting a traditional express.
As you approach the new 40 Express, the most noticeable difference is mezzanine-style seating found in the cockpit. For years, anglers and crew have draped themselves on tackle centers, freezers and storage lockers trying desperately to find a comfortable position as they kept an eye on the baits. The mezzanine-style seating aboard the new 40 Express finally provides a comfortable perch while watching the spread. An ergonomically designed footrest is built into the compartment below. This provides a convenient step down to the cockpit that can be flipped back up into its storage recess to create more room in the cockpit when fighting a fish and boating your catch.
Another modification is the addition of a dedicated tackle center and rigging station on the starboard side. Of course, the standard cockpit features that anglers have come to expect from CABO are still part of this traditional express design. Insulated fishboxes are molded into the sole and equipped with in-line macerators. Full-length piano hinges and rubber gaskets allow for a tight seal, to keep your catch fresher longer, and fish boxes can still be equipped with optional refrigeration plates. Available options include a hot and cold hand-held shower in the cockpit and a freezer for extended trips.
Storage throughout the cockpit of the new 40 Express remains abundant, leaving it clean and free of obstructions. The livewell is built into the transom and can be equipped with an optional window and lit for use at night. The transom door and top gate operate independently, providing safety for the angler and crew while bringing large fish aboard. And it wouldn’t be a CABO without padded bolsters ringing the cockpit coaming for comfort and security. Like much bigger sportfishers, the deck is equipped with an aluminum reinforcement plate for mounting a fighting chair.

The helm deck features the same L-shaped lounge and raised helm seating as the 40 HTX. Newly added is a drink box that is integrated into the helm deck’s starboard storage cabinet. A traditional windscreen and hardtop will provide the panoramic view from the helm and exterior profile so loved by many express enthusiasts. The helm deck and cockpit total more than 200 square feet and have been designed for maximum off-shore fishability.
Like its predecessor, the 40 Express’ foundation is a Michael Peters design, with careful thought and consideration given to creating this incredibly strong, high-performance hull. The 40 Express can be equipped with either standard propulsion or pod drives.
The cabin of the 40 Express showcases the same graceful spaciousness and refined comfort as before. A starboard settee seats six and converts to upper and lower bunks when it’s time to recharge overnight. Forward, the master stateroom features a large island double berth with ample drawer and locker space. The galley is fully equipped for fine cuisine, or just for feeding a hungry crew. A cedar-lined hanging closet provides additional stowage and, because CABO is all about fishing, lockers located port and starboard can hold up to ten rods. A newly available optional layout featuring a second stateroom and expands overnight options for you and your guests.
